SOORA SAMHARAM
MURUGAN THIRUKKALYANAM

Saturday, November 9, 2024
6:00 PM – Soora Samharam
6:45 PM – Murugan Thirukkalyanam

Legend has it that Surapadman, a demon, took over the Indra Logam from Indira Devan and his Deva Ganas by force. Lord Indra prayed to Lord Shiva who created Lord Murugan to defeat Surapadman and bring the heavenly Indira Logam back to the Devas.

Lord Murugan accomplished the objective set forth with his “Vel”(weapon) and his divine act is recorded as Soora Samharam (vanquishing of the demon) in the scriptures.

The day after Soora Samharam is celebrated as ‘Murugan Thirukkalyanam’ which is the day when the divine marriage ceremony of Lord Murugan and Devayani (daughter of Indira Devan) took place.

Let’s celebrate Soora Samharam and Murugan Thirukkalyanam and receive the blessings from Lord Murugan and his consorts, Valli and Devayani.

LORD SHIVA ANNA ABHISHEKAM

Saturday, November 16, 2024
6:30 PM – Sankalpam
7:00 PM – Anna Abhishekam
7:45 PM – Mangalaharathi

This ritual is performed on a Poornima day in the Tamil month of Aippasi to commemorate Lord Shiva.  In the fourth mantra of Sri Rudram, Lord Shiva is celebrated and saluted as: Annaanaam Pataye Namah: (Annaanaam Pati – Lord of all foods).  Traditionally, the Shiva temples in south India perform this abhishekam by covering the entire Lingam with cooked rice, which later is offered to the devotees as Maha Prasadam.

Hindus believe that those who participate in the Anna Abhishekam and receive the Maha Prasadam will be completely liberated from their “bad karma” and sins that had lingered from their previous and current births.  Happiness, good health and prosperity follow.

Annaanaam Pataye Namah!
Om Shivaya Namah!

LORD SHIVA SHANKHABHISHEKAM

Monday, November 25, 2024
6:30 PM – Karthika Somavaram Shankhabhishekam

Shankhabhishekam, or Conch Shell Abhishekam, has been practiced for many centuries for obtaining incredible material and spiritual blessings.  The conch shell symbolizes the mind and the fluid water taken in it, the thoughts.  The abhishekam with the conch shell underlines the significance of keeping one’s mind clear and thoughts pure, and enables us to be watchful of our thoughts, so that connecting with the divine happens naturally. Om Shivaya Namah!

KARTHIKA MONTH CELEBRATIONS

Trimurti Temple Devasthanam warmly welcomes you and your family to all of its Karthika Month celebrations. The month starts with DEEPAVALI and ends with KARTHIKA AMAVASYA. One of the important traditions observed in this month in South India is to light up diyas or oil-filled lamps both at home and at nearby temples. The belief behind such a practice is that one cleanses his mind and frees it from darkness, ignorance, anger, greed, jealousy, hatred, bitterness and resentment.

In keeping with its policy of preserving long-practiced traditions, Trimurti Temple encourages the devotees to engage in activities such as lighting up diyas but to do so in a safe and environmentally friendly way! The Temple has designated a certain area to be used for this purpose. Because of the ongoing construction work, the space for the designated area is small and, as a result, only a limited number of diyas can be lit up. Please check with the Temple office first if you plan to light up diyas on any particular day. There is a nominal fee of $5 for lighting up a diya, payable to the temple, on the day of your participation. Quantity limited to 4 diyas per family. You may bring your own diya or the temple will provide you one if you so desire.
Follow the instructions below so everyone can enjoy in a safe manner.

  • Light your diya only in the designated area and in the aluminum tray provided
  • Do not light diya on the floor directly and also ensure that no oil spills occur
  • Do not leave lit up diyas or incense sticks unattended, as they pose a fire hazard
