Maha Shivaratri – the greatest Shiva night is celebrated every year on Chaturdashi Thithi during Krisna Paksha (period of waning moon) in the month of Magha, the 11th month of the Lunar calendar. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Mahadev got married to Aadi Sakthi, in the form of Devi Sati, who was one of the daughters of Prajapathi Daksha, himself the son of Lord Brahma. The highlight of the Shiva-Sakthi wedding is His performance of the divine dance Tandavam.
Devotees pray to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi on this night for enlightenment – lifting of darkness (ignorance) and bestowing light (knowledge)! They chant prayers to the Divine Couple, observe fasting, and meditate on ethics and virtues such as honesty, charity, humility and forgiveness. Ardent followers stay awake all night, engaging them in the afore-mentioned activities, until a new day is on the horizon. Shiva worshippers commemorate the event by visiting His temple nearby.
Trimurti Temple is planning to celebrate the event on a grand scale. Please join us with family and friends.
